Can cell phones be used to fight AIDS? On November 7th, 2007 in Philadelphia, teams from five universities and four AIDS organizations came together to prove that yes, they could. The teams came up with several short vidoes targeted to cell phones, labelled as personal public service announcements (PPSAs), to encourage young people to be tested for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Check out more details at the project homepage.
On April 22 and 23, the New Media Institute at the University of Georgia will once again partner with several universities, this time in Atlanta, to encourage people to get tested for AIDS. The students will have one day and can only use cell phones to create public service announcements informing people about how to go about getting tested for AIDS.
